Undergraduate Teaching Fellow (UTF)

In Spring 2023, I began teaching a course titled “Introduction to Electrical & Computer Engineering,” designed for freshmen and sophomores to provide a broad overview of the diverse topics within the field of electrical and computer engineering (ECE). Since then, I have taught this course across multiple semesters: Spring 2023, Fall 2023, Spring 2024, and Fall 2024.

I lead a section of 12 students, guiding them through an hour and 50 minutes of lab-based instruction twice a week. Additionally, students attend a 50-minute lecture featuring guest speakers from the ECE department. Throughout my time teaching, I have had the privilege of collaborating with fantastic professors, including Dr. Romel Gomez and Dr. Julius Goldhar.

Why have I continued as a Undergraduate Teaching Fellow (UTF) for this long? Teaching the next generation of ECE students is deeply rewarding. The opportunity to ignite a passion for a particular topic is truly fulfilling, and watching my students grow — potentially even surpassing me — is something I aspire for all of them. Leading a small group not only builds my leadership skills but also allows me to inspire the next wave to follow a similar path.

Comments and Reviews
Here are some comments and reviews from my former students, taken from course evaluations.

“He did a really good job at helping us with the modules while also making us do our own work and learn how to complete the modules on our own. Made tons of effort to make the class engaging and went above and beyond in many of the modules.”

“I absolutely loved my TA Vincent Pham. He’s a very fun lecturer and person overall. He is serious when needed to be especially regarding helping students. He always goes the extra mile to make class enjoyable.”

“My TA played a major role in my success and learning in this class, Vincent was a great leader, and during our lab he was very helpful, and made sure that we were fully understanding of the tasks and requirements we had to meet for each assignment. I had an injury occur which kept me from going to class toward the end of the semester, so I missed a handful of classes, and Vincent was very accommodating, whether it was excusing me from assignments that I would not be able to complete since they were in person, or if it was providing me the information necessary that I missed. He was also very considerate in giving me reasonable due dates for make up assignments. I highly recommend him. Even at times when I would be completing assignments late at night sometimes as late as midnight, if I sent Vincent an email because I was struggling on an assignment, he would reply within 30 minutes every time. Not a single time occurred where I did not receive a response within less than an hour, which was extremely helpful in completing assignments on time and managing my time with other classes.”

“Honestly Vincent was really really good. I appreciated that he always took time to comment on our lecture responses.”

“Very helpful with all of the labs that we had. He was also very enthusiastic and cared about expanding our knowledge about ECE. He was always understanding of all of his students and deeply cared to make everyone feel included. I would highly recommend him to anyone taking this course.”
